PVR machine and HD TVs

This should be easy.

I have a PVR machine, that records Freeview channels directly from the television. But it isn't geared up for HD.

However, can I still use it to record programmes using a HD television? Will the recording be non-HD, but otherwise perfectly okay? What about "HD ready" televisions? The same?

So when I play it back on this PVR machine, the images are fine but not in HD.

I'm thinking of buying a HD or "HD ready" television, but I want to keep the PVR machine.

I went to the retail shop and got my query answered there.

My Panasonic EX75 has an AV3 input that enables me to record direct from my Sky digibox and even from my camcorder.

Unfortunately, for reasons unknown, Humax models do not have this facility.

Is that not the difference between PVR and Freeview + devices?

natdoor is quite correct. A true PVR isn't an HDD Recorder with a Tuner it's a fully integrated twin tuner EPG Recorder with specialist software. The difference is in the implementation of the hardware and firmware (and in the case of a Topfield the ability to load alternate firmware to add Apps).

So a PVR will be different to an HDD Recorder. Problem is the difference is now blurred because of the way the term PVR is used (often wrongly).

PVR's will ALWAYS have twin tuners and integrated EPG (Sky if it's a Sky PVR, Freeview if it's a terrestrial PVR or Freesat EPG id it's a Freesat PVR). Anything else is an HDD Recorder.
