Movie files on still cameras

I have a Canon A520, and a Panasonic Lumix TZ8. They both record movies in movie JPEG format, but the TZ* files will not play on Windows Media Player, only on Quicktime. Does anyone know the reason for this, please?

JPEG is a still picture format. Check the manual is it MPEG

According to the review of your camera, the video format is Motion JPG.

The free conversion programme "Super" should convert this to other formats that will play in Windows media player.

he didn't say motion JPEG which is why I thought he'd got it wrong.

Thank you for replies, yes my error, the format is Motion JPEG. The Canon instructions do recommend Quicktime, so why they play on Windows Media Player as well rather baffles me!

To all Forum members, enjoy your Christmas!
