Mains USB adapter for Sony NWZX1060B X Series

I have recently bought one of the above MP3 players and wanted a mains adapter for those times when one can't get to a computer. Of course like most branded accessories, the Sony adapter is way overpriced, so I noted that the spec. of the Sony adapter was 5V 500mA, and ordered one from Amazon with these specs.

The adapter has arrived, but it says on the specs. that it is 5V 1000mA. How important is this current, and is it likely to be unsuitable for my MP3 player?

We also have a couple of Ipods in the family (I know, I know, but I didn't buy them). Are Ipods a different standard (like they are for everything else), when it comes to the charging current?
