DSLR advice

I'm seriously considering moving up from my Panasonic DMC-FZ45 bridge camera to a DSLR.

I'm looking at 3 options at the moment, but I'm open to options in the same price bracket.

Canon EOS 1100D Nikon D3100 Sony SLT-A35 (my preferred choice at the moment, but the most expensive)

I will be mainly photographing landscapes, stock car racing and general snaps.

Of your three options I would go for the Sony if you're after sheer value for money - it's a lot of camera for the price.

My second choice would be the Nikon, although the Canon is a close contender - let down slightly by its rather cheap-looking build quality. It's not badly built, it just looks it.

I really like the sound of the Sony camera, and the only bad reviews I've read have been in the professional photography magazines that object to the fixed mirror and electronic viewfinder.

The only problem is that no one seems to stock it.

Why, it was only launched in the middle of last year?

I'm going to have to start my research again from scratch now :-(

I have no idea why Sony discontinued the camera - usually this happens when a successor is in the pipeline. You should still be able to pick one up secondhand in good condition - here's one, for instance
