I've just bought this digital camera, more or least on an impulse, and what I've found is when in video mode it picks up all the camera noise when zooming. Is this normal with such cameras?

Yes it is! I've found a test on you tube and the camera noise is there when zooming!

I have the S1600 and the noise is a great disappointment. Rest of the camera fine. I tend to zoom before starting. Yet my Kodak Z1285 is silent.
