Cheap extra DVD Recorder?

I have a "proper" DVD recorder, but sometimes there is a clash of programmes. I have a TV Freeview dongle with my laptop, which has an HDMI socket. I sometimes watch TV on it in Windows 7 Ult Media Centre . I could record also on the laptop. Could I simply join the laptop to the TV with the HDMI and watch the recorded TV programme that way? This would give me an extra DVD recorder for the £30 odd for the dongle!

If your laptop has an HDMI socket you will be able to connect it to your TV.
I think you will find pressing the FN key and one of the F keys (not sure which one), it will switch between laptop and TV.
