HD digital recorders

I have a tv with freeview hd built in.I want to record hd pause etc from a digital recorder. I want to do this as cheaply as possible.Do I need a HD digital recorder with freeview or can I record from my built in hd freeview to a standard digital recorder?I originally wanted a hd top up box but apparently they dont exist.

What model of TV?
does it have twin tuners so you can watch one program and record another?
