Can I burn an iPlayer recording?

I have downloaded a programme to my pc which I should like to watch on my tv, for practical reasons it is best for me to burn a copy to a dvd then watch it on my dvd player.
I have burned a disc but it will not play even though my player will play mp4 files.
I imagine the programme from iPlayer is copy protected? Does anyone know if I can burn a copy legally and if so how?

Thank you both.
I thought as much. I too find it odd that a programme can be recorded on one medium but not another.

It is odd that if you record a TV programme using Windows Media Centre or a DVD recorder, you can make a DVD, but not via iPlayer. Not sure why there is a difference.
