Sony DCR-TRV120/Windows Movie Maker

Hello,
I am using a sony dvr-trv120 plugged directly into a gateway M350 laptop and running windows movie maker to make some short clip music videos. I’m coming straight out of a behringer mixer (tape out) in to the sony dvr-trv120. when I go direct the sound is much more full and no ambient noise as with a mike. But, here’s my problem. I can’t find a way to control the input attenuation. The dvr-trv120 seems to have a fixed mic input volume level that hates bottom end. I have to have the output from the behringer set so low that it creates allot of hiss noise at the input of the dvr-trv120.
Has anyone dealt with this type of issue? Any ideas on how to get around it? Can I record into the laptop instead of the DVR. Unfortunately, all I have at the time is Windows Movie Maker.
any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Denster
