Virus protection on Apple mac

I have just purchased an Apple mac mini md387 b/a. I know that these should not need virus protection. However if I did put Bit Defender on it would this do any harm or simply be superfluous ?. Secondly if I did not use Bit Defender would it be worthwhile downloading Rapport Security (as advised by my bank) If Apple macs are virus proof, does this mean they are proof agains such things as Trojans and malware. Any advice would be appreciated.

Apples are not virus proof. You will need some anti-virus program and it wont do any harm to download Rapport as well.
