CD reader important for ripping?

Having ripped the occasional track/album over the years I am about to start putting many more CD's onto my computer now I can play back through a decent outboard DAC (Music Fidelity V-DAC 2). My CD reader is a TDK DVDRW880N which I think is about 7 or more years old. My question is will a different i.e. newer CD reader make any difference to the quality of the digital files created. Speed isn't very important to me as I tend to do this type of work as a background task. I am using iTunes to catalogue and playback these CD's.

If CD reader is in full working order, I don't think it would make any difference. However as it is about 7 years old it's probably time for a new one anyway.
