creating an elliptical shaped photo

I recently purchased photoshop elements 10 and I've been trying to make an elliptical shaped photo,but each time I try a different method and save as. I always end up with an elliptical shaped photo-but it still has the rectangular frame around it. Is it possible just to get the elliptical shape only.

It sound like you are saving the picture as a JPEG or similar, if so the elliptical picture will be in a fixed position and the area around it will be the page colour usually white.

If you save as PDS, TIFF or png it will keep the elliptic shape and transparent background allowing you to move or transfer the picture at a later date.

if you have Microsoft word you can do it in there.

in word insert picture-page layout-open up picture styles and whalla thee it is.

Please try and do some little research using Google or you tube. all you have to do is just ask a similar question to you tube and follow the instructions that's it. hope it helps.
