Combining music with pictures

Sorry if this question has been asked a million times, but I'm thinking about combining the music from my favourite album with pictures/video as is done a lot on YouTube (sometimes very well done). Is there any free software which would help me in this task, and would it be advisable to get some more RAM,as my old nail has a whole 1gb?. Thanks.

Yes to the RAM, at least another 2GB.
And here is a bit of reading for you. Video and music.

Have a look at the SERIF website as they have a lot of free video editing software
https://www.freeserifsoftware.com/
The only problem is:
You have to register and give your Telephone number, with which they will call you and try to sell you the latest software at various times, but it is generally good software for a freebee
