dvd drive - burning discs

My pc crashes each time I try to burn to a disc. Is this likely to be a fault with the actual drive or something inside the actual workings of the PC? The drive plays music CDs so I am thinking more along the lines of a fault within the PC. Any advice greatly appreciated
