No sound on HDMI laptop TV connection

Trying to connect laptop to TV with HDMI-HDMI cable. Video works fine but no sound. When I check Sound Playback Devices, it tells me NVIDIA HDMI output not plugged in. Any ideas?

Do you have a seperate input on your computer for sound (Normally a phono or 3.5mm jack plug.?

If so connect a cable from your speaker out (computer) to that socket.

I tried connecting via the headphone jack as well but it made no difference. I had though understood that HDMI should do both video and audio??

Try this....

Right click on the speaker icon in the bottom right corner of taskbar (or go to Sound in Control Panel)

Select playback devices

By default it is usually set to "speakers" with the additional option of "Digital Output" or in my case "AMD HDMI Output" being unselected.

Highlight digital audio or HDMI and set it to default.
