outlook express 6 can't open mp4 attachments

My outlook express 6 can't open a mp4 attachment.. When I click the attachment I get the notice that this file does not have a program associated with it to perform this action... However if I save the attachments to my desktop I can open the mp4 file from there...

The OS is XP pro Service pack 3....

WHAT'S WRONG????

I forgot to add that I have VLC media player installed on my computer

An MP4 file is an Itunes music file, and as such will not be openable in outlook. Can you save the file (if not already done), then right click on it and open with VLC media player or XP's media player.

Iam by no means an expert on computers butI thought MP4 was a video format. I didn't tink it was exclusive to iTunes. Surely you can use and play MP 4 files without even havig iTunes installed.
