cant scan to computer

Hi there, for some reason the scanner on my computer is not working, it is a HP c4480 all in one, I can print from my computer to the printer, I can scan to printer, but I cant scan to my computer. I reads some of the posts here and thought I would uninstall the software, but when I go to uninstall it I can click on the line and press uninstall and it does nothing at all. I looked online for updates and it said I have the lates driver, dont know what else to try, I have gone to windows,pressed file, pressed import from scanner and nothing is listed?????????? when I go to paint and press import from scanner it lists four or five usb readers?????????? I am puzzled any ideas

Forgot to add that i have windows vista home premium
