Desktop PC required for gaming

Hi, I haven't purchased a new desktop pc for about 6 years, I've had laptops since my last desktop PC. I currently use FS2004 and the graphics are not the best, I have FSX but am not able to use it on my laptop due to graphics issues, I have Windows 7 and as far as I am aware, FSX is compatible with Windows 7 & 8. I ideally would like to purchase a new desktop PC purely for gaming, my budget is anything up to around £600. I really am unsure what to look for and don't want to go into a store such as Currys PC World just incase they fob me off with anything they want to flog.

Any help/advice is greatly received. Thanks.
