Buffalo 500GB Ministation Extreme question

Hello everyone,

I have my eye on the Buffalo 500GB Ministation Extreme external hard drive.

In particular, I am looking for a product which will let me use the drive on any Windows 7 PC and type in a password to access my data - without having to install any software on the actual PC.

According to Buffalo - it uses SecureLock to do the password feature - does anyone know if this has to be installed on the PCs that the drive is connected to? - or does it run straight from the external drive?

Many thanks for any advice.

Not sure about your main question but it says USB3 so may not work on a usb 2 port.

Only guessing about that but best finding out before you buy it.
