Looking for a tablet - help needed

I am looking to buy a tablet which I want to use for emails, skype, e-reader, internet access and possibly word processing. The main aim is to take it abroad with me so I don't have to take my laptop.

I am fairly tech savvy when I have to be, but i'm not sure about the whole mobile internet/wifi stuff overseas. I am on a fairly low budget too and as i'm not sure of my future plans, I don't want to be locked into a long term contract.

Any help is appreciated

Since you're tech-savvy you probably don't need help choosing the tablet ?

As far as mobile access abroad goes, i would rely on free wireless access points in hotels, bars etc.

Probably not a very helpful answer !

All the best,

qvision.
