The Windows Updates service won`t run

When I click Windows Updates in Win7 I get the message that the update service is not running and I may have to restart.Even then I still get this message.Updates on my machine are set to automatic but do not appear to be doing so.Any help with this problem much appreciated.

Have you gone into services and made sure Windows updates were set to automatic and running.

If you have tried that and it still does not work Disable it and stop it running in services,Reboot and switch it back on and make sure it has started.
