Free upgrade on an iMac bought from amazon uk

Having bought an iMac within the period for a free upgrade to the OS I duly scanned a copy of the order and sent it via the application form to Apple. I received a reply saying they could not proceed as it was missing the "part number". I e-mailed Apple to ask where would I find the number, no reply, so I inserted the serial number on the form and re-sent it, received same reply "no part number" I then contacted Amazon to ask, via live chat, for the part number, they did not know what that was so said they would bring in "The Amazon Chiefs" I thought for a moment they were going to get some large American Football players to sort them out. After 5 days, which was yesterday, I received an e-mail from Amazon informing me that although it normally only takes 1/2 days they were still investigating the problem. Has anyone applied for this update and if so how did you get on? What and where is the "part number" on an iMac?

You won't believe this, I saw it happen and I don't believe it!

First off having not heard from Amazon I got Apple to call me back and explain what was meant by "no part number" they did not know and suggested I contact Amazon!

So I thought I would try inputting the order number from the receipt, having to put it in as a scanned document I typed it on paper and scanned it to the iMac, before I could open the relevant form, which I had the initial rejection on, it opened itself and this time it only asked for the serial number with my details again. I then received 2 e-mails with details on how to access the download of Mountain Lion, after a couple of rejections of the provided password I got through to the download link and Het Presto it downloaded the new OS. It then took 40 minutes to install and when I came back to the computer there was a message "could not install upgrade" I clicked try again a few times to no avail, I then clicked on Launchpad to find that Mountain lion was already installed.

My only problem now is that updates o iTunes update and a couple more are in French when I want them in English!

My callback from Apple mysteriously got cut off when I asked the "agent" why did you ask for the part number when you don't now what it is?

It's been an interesting time using the iMac, I hope Mountain Lion isn't too different. it's difficult as it is.

Anyway thank you all for your help, much appreciated,

Regards,

Sapins.

I don't think your Mountain Lion was installed otherwise it wouldn't still be in Launchpad. Please click the Apple symbol in the top left corner=>About This Mac=>make sure the version of OSX is10.8 if you see 10.7.4 then you're still on Lion.
