Best Router/modem

Am considering buying a new modem/router. Any advice much appreciated. It will be connected by cable to my computer. I do not use wireless or networking. I am using Windows 7, Firefox and Thunderbird.

Are you with Virgin,if so a self call them and get a free superhum well not free just £20 for a self install,i use a desktop with a small USB dongle i bought from Amazon for £3-4 works a treat completely cable free and no loss of speed as well.
