Buying online, what does this mean?

Tried to buy a couple of tapes from "labelzone" for my Casio label printer but when I tried to use my Maestro card this came up :-

The Card Range requires 3D-Authentication, its not supported by the vendor.

What is 3D-Authentification? After years of buying online this is a first.
