I bought these great speakers for 5 quid from a charity store. The are usb powered and give a decent sound. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-970155-0914-V-20-Laptop-Speakers/dp/B000B5OA78/ref=sr14?ie=UTF8&qid=1320138610&sr=8-4

You only have stereo headphone out. So it is unlikely that 2.1 or 5.1 will work without an external sound card.

You can connect 2.1 speakers to the stereo headphone jack of a laptop and they will work fine but you cannot use 5.1 as these require an extra output to drive the front and rear speakers.
