Which is a good DVD recorder at a reasonable price. The one we have, A Sony RDR-HXD710 which doesn't always record the programmes we have selected. It is over four years old and it will be cheaper to buy a new one as we would have to pay £35.00 just to find what the fault is. Any advice much appreciated

I have a Sony RDR HXD870 that missed programmed recordings from new.
It was a firmware issue that was eventually resolved by Sony, who produced a downloadable fix which was then burnt to DVD and loaded onto the machine.
Might be worth some research.
