What's the best hand-held console to buy right now for a 7year old boy?

Looking at either

nintendo 3ds

or

sony psp

We don't normally do gaming in our house but we got a 3ds out of curiosity and it's well made, offers 3d without the need to wear specs, and has the added bonus of augmented reality (AR).

We now have a virtual dog and cat to keep us amused (you need to buy the nintendogs game), and with AR we can even be in photos with them, or set them loose on the sofa.

I would definitely recommend this console for a child because the gameplay tends to encourage exercise (measured by an inbuilt pedometer) as a way of gaining game credits.

Such fun!
