Server 2003 Standard Edition. Domain choice not visible at login

I've got an old server running Server 2003 which requires the odd reboot but is a bugger to get back up again (we are going to virtualise it on a Server 2012 box when it is back up) but for some reason the option at initial Windows login to logon to a domain or 'this computer' has disappeared and as such will not accept the domain password. Any ideas? Can I rejoin a domain in Safe Mode?
