My desktop wifi is slow at 1mb, everything else is 8mb

Hi there so I bought a new windows 8 desktop from currys this week but my sky wifi is slow only about 1mb wheras my other devices run at about 8mb which include, laptops, consoles, iphone etc and all at the same time. Even turning my other devices off doesn't really speed my desktop up.

My router is only a year or so old I think so im not sure what the problem is?

Where is the wifi on the desktop situated? It could be that the tower is partially screening the signal, what is its strength?

Have you changed channel on the router?

Is the desktop's wifi's driver up to date?
