I am setting up a home network for transferring files from pc to NAS to popcorn hour.I already own a belkin modem/router which I don't use as I am with sky broadband and use there modem. Can I use my belkin wireless modem/router as a router only?

No, because its WAN port is an RJ11 port for connecting to a phone line and you cannot separate the Router from the Modem.
You can disable its DHCP server and use it as a Network Switch and/or Wireless Access Point, but it won't function as a "Router". To use it this way, connect one of its LAN ports by ethernet cable (might require a crossover ethernet cable) to a LAN port in your Sky router.
