how can I tell if my app is trying to access the internet, and can I stop it?

Lets say I download a freeware tool. I don't trust it 100%, and I don't want it to access the internet (because it might be sending information out etc).

Is there anyway I can forbid internet access to this app?

(I have Comodo firewall)

You should be able to deny access from your Firewall. I don't use Comodo so you will have to check on how to do this in section">http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/Comodo_Internet_Security_Pro_User_Guide.pdf&images=no">section 3.7

I read about something called a sandbox. I think that's what I need to investigate...
