Network-attached storage advice

I am researching NAS for playback of high quality music files over a network, but I've really no idea how I recognise a good NAS from an average one. What am I looking for in the specifications of a NAS item, that would tell me how good it is. I would only want a maximum of 2 drives.
Also, is a Linksys WRT54GS wireless g router good enough for streaming music, or do I need to be looking at a more modern router?
