£14k per night for a hotel room?
Having a load of money is alright in my eyes, but why do some people feel the need to be so ostentatious. "Because I can", I suppose would be the answer.

Forum Editor, that is what really annoys me with people who have made a successful career. They give generously to charity, which is quiet for the public, then the BBC or other media springs such 'news' for how much a Hotel room costs. Who cares about 'half a bathroom'? Who cares about the Beckhams?
That they choose to give to charity, or not, should be private. If they choose a Hotel to stay in, regardless of the cost, should also be private.
I'm surprised that the BBC should take the same outlook on news as the Sun would.

If I had the money I wouldn't hesitate for an instant.
Enjoy it while it lasts, he's already had more time at the top than most in his trade.

I find the Premier Inn (Lenny Henry Hotels) type of hotel is certainly good enough for me. I must say though that I have never ever managed to book one at the low price they boast, so those rooms are few and far between. When I go to Germany if I haven't got accommodation with friends, I book in to one of the "Ibis" chain. They are basic, clean, but comfortable as well. People who like a so called Full English Breakfast need not bother though as they only do continental style fare. That suits me because that is all I have at home these days anyway.

My hotel needs are pretty simple too. A bed, a shower, a TV.

If you do then you would be overeating! All the German hotels, and Dutch, and most of the Belgian ones I have stayed in serve a breakfast of as many boiled eggs as you can eat, ham, other mixed cold meats, cheese, cereal, juice, large crisp rolls and unlimited coffee.
The so called Continental breakfast is, mainly, served only in France or French hotel chains.

When you add up the cost of the hotel, assuming he's paying full price, it's more than the take home on his reported salary.
For the £2m+ he could rent a very nice apartment for the 5 months he's in Paris.
btw I do like the name the French media have bestowed upon Beckham - Le Spice Boy

"...it's more than the take home on his reported salary."
He reportedly made $275million over the past five years in LA. He'll get other, considerable income from sponsorships, and his net worth is an estimated £160 million - he can easily afford the occasional hefty hotel bill.
