I have visited Southport and the distinctive building just to the left of the junction and pier is still there. Recognised it fairly immediately but the whole front has vastly changed.

Conference Centre and Hotel to the left of the pier. The pier too looks different with a different bridge over the lake. Further out nearer the sea, which never seems to come in, there are some reasonable places to eat.
