I don't really understand how this works,but why not a $16 trillion coin,then there would be no debt at all. Might have difficulty getting change at the coffee shop.

What a good idea :) I've got some gold (choc) coins left over from xmas, thank goodness I didn't eat them all. I'll pay them into my bank account tomorrow to use to pay my Visa card bill.

If it was really that simple then they could mint 17 of them and leave themselves some spare change for the tea/coffee kitty.
