For the record, I have a 17" PB and a Samsung netbook. I'd buy either make again as they're 5 and 4 years old respectively and are still doing their job as intended.

...and I have to say I'm still in quite a dilemma over which 10"ish touch pad that I'm in the market for. I'm impressed with the Samsung build quality, but can't decide between Android or W8 RT OS. iApple isn't in the running for me.

had a sony over 6 years good build reliable, but support poor, spare parts expensive.

got a samsung 18months good support, still working well.

i would go for samsung again.

"We're not pretending this is in-depth scientific research"

Unfortunately many people will not see it that way.

PCA, and IDG, are too influential in the field to be indulging in such whims.

Anyone Googling "Reliable laptops"is going to get Apple or Dell, with Acer, Asus, Tosh and Samsung hardly getting a look in.

I don't know, that's one of the reasons I use this site for finding that sort of thing out!

I would have mentioned the brand names of my two 'workhorse' laptops [which I've had / used for donkeys years] ... but that would be tempting fate ;o]
