When Glasgow folk went venturing on holiday at the 'Fair' 'doon the watter', the first railway station on the outward journey was/is Paisley (Gilmour Street)...it was always a 'passing thru' town. [to me]

Yes but you have to remember it was steam trains in those days.Don't think anybody goes doon the watter any more.

Yes that is just about right where you picked up the Steamer that took you to Rothesay ect.

Sailed all the way with a band on board and was a great day out for those living in the Glasgow area.Never stopped at Paisley mind you.

There were at least 3 paddle steamers in those days.I think the Waverley may be the last one still in use.

There is another one.The Maid of the Loch which is stationed at Balloch which is being renovated and should be back in business just now or in the near future.
