Is Iceland in Europe

For Holiday Insurance purposes I am getting conflicting advice as to whether Iceland is classed as being in Europe. Before I tackle the insurance company does anyone here know the answer ? I know that it is thinking of applying for EU membership so I assume that it is classed as being in Europe.
