I may have got it wrong.Maybe it was not for subs and I have not got a clue as to what you call it,
It sinks in the water and craft sail on to it and it rises in the water again,
I always thought that it was for submarine repair.Anyone any idea as to what kind of boat that I am describing.
Ok it looked similar to this but maybe smaller.

That's a floating dock and at least one was at Rothesay picture of sub in dock. The one now at Faslane/Coulport is fairly recent.

Thanks for that I was beginning to doubt myself.
Interesting actually getting a photo of one of the Navy boats or docks as it is called.
They used to have an open day each summer where you were picked up by one of the shore leave boats and taken out to HMS Montclare I believe it was.Not sure if I got on the subs mind you as I was only about 8yrs old at the time.
Just having a look at the Montclare it was not that one that I was on as the one I was on had the big Guns on it.

It was the floating dock that I seen at Faslane it was moved there when it left Rothesay.May well still be there.
I had already had a look at your 2nd click here but there was a lack of photos in it.

The depot ship was probably HMS Adamant. Floating docks generally look alike. The ones that you would have seen at Rothesay were scrapped many years ago. The one at Faslane is specifically for nuclear subs.

No the depot ship was the Montclare it was stationed there for years.
Other Destroyers + Submarines used to come in as well for short stays.
You would have thought that someone would have taken photos of them at one time but hard to find.Maybe I am looking in the wrong places.
Ok found this. The Montclare was replaced in 1954 by HMS Adamant.

I had left Rothesay about 4 years earlier so that's why I did not remember Hms Adamant.
