Almost coinciding with the launch of Win 8 Steven Sinofsky decides to step down as head of the Windows division at Microsoft. Windows head leaves
I should have thought that now would be a time for basking in the glory, or does he know something that we don't?

Sinofsky has an unfortunate name. I can think of one company that I feel would not like that surname on payroll.

I think Microsoft may be regretting not having Windows 8 in two separate versions - one for tablets/phones and another for laptops/desktops.
Roll on Windows 9.

I've no doubt there was a bit of pushing going on but, as we desire stability from our Microsoft O/S's, I would have thought that they would also like to project an image of stability within the Windows department at this time.

He did not "step down" as you euphemistically put it.
He "left with immediate effect".
In all the jobs I've ever come in contact with that means one thing, whether you're a top exec, or a tea maker!
