Talk about the speaking clock and the satnavs! :) Seriously though, I expect some 'assists' will be of help to some drivers. For myself, then I'm afraid I'd be soon looking for the main cut off button in order to retain my sanity. :)

Are we all sitting comfortably? Then here comes the story

Not quite on theme, but visiting the local town today I was suprised to see all the MPV type taxis have external electric signs that light up to say doors opening. Is this part of the same legislation?

"All I can say is God HELP US if any body needs some thing to remind them to change gear"

You are being too simplistic, I don't need a device to tell me when to change gear but I do welcome a device that uses a computer to monitor a host of variables within the vehicle and accurately tell me at what point selecting a higher gear will aid economy.

"All some of these measures will do is give the idiot driver an excuse for not doing safety inspections on their car"

And if as a result it prevents said driver from having a fatal accident quicker the implementation the better.

namtas If some body needs a device to tell them when to change gear or which gear to be in then I am afraid that that person can not read the road ahead.

Don't any of you lot ever check your cars at least once a week, or inspect your tyres before driving off, because other wise how do you know you are driving safely.

I'm not being big headed or I know better but I visually check my tyres before getting in the car.
