police commissioner elections

Do you think it is a good idea to have a commissioner of police instead of the old police authority. If the correct person is voted in, will they have the teeth and inclination to force chief constables to there way of thinking.

Or will you not be voting.

With a bit of luck our local candidate will sail in. http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/Lord-Prescott-odds-favourite-PCC-role/story-17222944-detail/story.html

13.06% voting turnout in Essex, approximately 1 in 8 people, which is mainly, I believe, due to the lack of self promotion of the candidates. The only one who seemed to bother in our part was the UKIP candidate who unfortunately didn't get the post.

"Scotland should distance itself from this English silliness "

I thought it already had, by having only one nationwide police force with no Commissioner?

It is a good job I do not back the horses. My selection came second.

At least there was good news at Corby, I think the Lib Dems lost their deposit or very near. Coming in a miserable 4th place behind Ukip.

I wonder what kind of spin Nick Clegg puts on that one.

In my area the Tory won with just 28% voting for him as first choice which equated to a miserly 4.24% of the possible vote.

A very clear mandate then.

What is sad is how it is being reported as so many Tory, so many Layout and so many independent.

These post should all be independent, and .anyone affiliated to a political party barred from standing.

Wonder what will happen, as it is bound to eventually, when the PCC is a different party to the local council?

Will they starve him/her of funds or will he/she blame them for lack of support?

My apologies in advance for any mistakes in my posts, both here and elsewher. My eyesight has reall y deteriorated in the last two weeks and I cannot even see things thrown up by the spellcher!

And it only cost a mere £100,000,000. So money well spent?

I've been wonderinfg about that. At an average of just shy of £2.5Mil per commisioner, I cant help but wonder if we actually got value for money, or if it was a case of money no object? I mean, what was that much money actually spent on?

How will these commissioners find out what we, the taxpayers, want of our police? Most of us will never hear from them or, maybe, even know who they are. I have twice written to my MP with what I thought were sensible suggestions - one suggesting a Portsmouth - Gosport road bridge (which could be funded by tolls if there is no County funds). He simply wrote back with the Government policy - no: "Thank you , I will try to put forward your views". I think that representatives, either MP's or these commissioners will simply push their own agenda with little consultation with their constituents.
