Why is the green tick not working?

I've tried to tick the football thread a few times and although it worked o.k. a couple of weeks ago, now it seems to have no effect at all. Is there a secret that nobody has told me?

A green tick doesn't mean the thread is closed. You can still post afterwards. I am going to tick aitchbee's Mackerel bit to see if it works.

Ticking it just produces a small dash alongside the tick, so I must be doing something wrong. It worked o.k. a couple of weeks ago.

I haven't been able to even see anything to tick since the upgrade months ago so none of my posts have been ticked. It looks as if I am not alone.
