...regarding the departure of Hastie's The Bakers, I knew the 'writing was on the wall' when I noticed that recently the circumferences of their home-baked bread rolls had diminished from four big bites, to only three small 'nibbles'. They (Hasties) will be sadly not missed, by me.

AitchBee I will miss Hasties they have lovely homemade large apple pies. I feel sorry for the ladies behind the counter at loosing there jobs. They also had nice strawberry tarts. They would put the apple pie in a nice box with ribbon. My brother passed away two years ago. He did not have much of an appetite but he loved "Hasties Apple Pies "

Shopgirl, Alex Salmond should have stepped in, and saved Hasties 'cos I saw David Cameron today on TV praising a bakery in Leeds, which he visited recently, from where he purchased a big 'un. (hot pie).

And he was also extolling the tastiness of 'Cornish Pasties'...he did not say 'hot'...I must admit.

Where was Alex?

Shopgirl. For some reason your post brought back memories of when I first started work at the age of fourteen. Us teenagers were more innocent in those days of course. During the lunch break, I was asked by the men in the place I worked, to go to the shops just up the road for fags and to a shop round the corner in Scotland Road, which sold cakes and pies and fancy goods. I had a list of the things I was to buy and top of the list were "Half a dozen Virgin Tarts". You can imagine the ribbing I got from the girls who worked in the shop when I read the list out.

Your virgin tarts do exist, but even with the benefit of hindsight it's a bit to late to get your own back now!

That's the second time in a week that I posted link to that product...

It would have been nice if the pasties dhown had indeed been "Cornish Pasties". Those shown are nothing like the real thing!
