Have you been targeted by an internet troll?

Perhaps you have, or perhaps you don't even know what a troll is in this context.

Many people suffer miserably at the hands of these weird individuals however, and here's an account of one such case and here's some background information for those who don't know about on-line trolls.

If it's happened to you, or to someone you know, we would be interested to hear about it.

Maybe I have a slightly different definition of internet trolling than you do. But part of it was by direct email (I opened a hotmail account for that specific purpose) and part was via a local newspapers article comments section. As I recall one or two other candidates also had a presence there. Most of the time it was pretty civilised, even when things were getting a little heated, but there was also some pretty vile stuff being thrown about as well. I should also point out in fairness that the rough stuff was quickly removed, probably for legal reasons, but my election agent and one or two friends kept me abreast of things.

An Internet troll is specifically someone who posts offensive personal comments about an individual in on-line communities. The idea being to reach as large an audience as possible.

I'm sure that offensive comments in private emails and newspaper comments sections can be very upsetting, but it's not what I'm talking about.
