Just started in Birmingham, however, we are forecast rain for Sunday so it may not last long. According to BBC Weather we are due about 4 inches. If this is all we get this winter then we will have had a lucky escape compared to the last few winters.

Anyone having it bad?

Horse racing has been victim to the weather today.

Even the ALL-WEATHER racetrack at Wolverhamton had to be abandoned, this afternoon, due to the snow. They managed to stage 4 races, until poor visiblity in the snow, made it unsafe.

Started to have snow flurries since 2.15 am this morning, not really enough to settle and build up, but there is a bit of 'Siberian' rawness in the air. Notice in the last hour a slight breeze, making the trees shake slightly?.

Over an inch now in south Birmingham and the big load is expected in the next 2 hours. Polite request, when posting on this thread it is useful to know your location!

Brumas Pond is 3 feet deep but the top of the pump is only about 4 inches down and the tubing runs to a filter just above ground level hidden under a rockery hump, the pumps fountain froze so did the tubing to the filter and the top of the filter. The ice on the pond was over two inches thick! I live in a well known 'frost hollow'.

Here in South East Northumberland it's a mixture of rain and hail, freezing instantly. Went outside to next door neighbour's, the driveway and footpath was lethal, wall or gatepost offered no support being covered in ice.

Spoke to the neighbour briefly, returned home and that's me inside for the night. Forecast is for sunshine tomorrow and a maximum of 6c, hopefully enough to ease walking or driving conditions.
