It's that time again, and it's also a year that I wouldn't put any money on anyone as the obvious contender, not even the early Calcutta Cup game. I think it's as wide open as it's ever been this year.

The Eyeties will be there Bingalau:)
And I think AitchBEE's quoted odds of 150/1 for them is a bit cruel, I wouldn't dare play against them!

Just to bump this up before the Scotland v England game starts, I also think it might be worth putting a few bob on the Italians. They improved a lot last time around.

Al94 But they do say that the winners are only counted at the finish...
I think the Scots made the mistake of believing their own bullshhhhh!
I think tomorrows game will set the standard.
And I think I'll now crawl into bed happy:)

True, but if the Jocks fail to win or can only scramble a draw.....well, they'll come in for a serious lot of stick :-)
Ho, Ho, Ho...well. I think that puts paid to any Scottish claims to be a serious 6N contender, this year!
England made all the mistakes you would expect from a new and very inexperienced team and, with all their experience, Scotland should have easily capitalised on them. Instead, they messed up simple opportunity after simple opportunity to cross the try-line. Forget Hodgson's charge-down and Laidlaw's near-miss, Scotland squandered more than enough chances to make these irrelevant (although I though Denton was seriously good).
Naturally, on the basis of this performance, England have very little chance of retaining the 6N and TBH, that's as would be expected. However, it seems as if - potentially - we may now have a team that can learn and develop. It was particularly nice to see them not give away a penalty every time that the defence cam under pressure.
Defo the year for Wales or France, I think

I think they should chuck Scotland out of the system and replace them with Spain. (CAP).

Big shock. Dan Parks retires with immediate effect. Although not Scottish, I thought he always gave 100% and was a pleasure to watch. probably blames himself for the defeat to England.
