Now that Scotland seems to have made up it's mind to go independent of the rest of the British Isles, does that mean we can stop throwing our money at them, and we can get rid of all the scotish MP's in parliment?
Can you explain to me we are second class europeans in scotland ?
Scotland has FREE university places for anyone in Europe EXCEPT if you are English, but they don't object to us paying for them.
Or is is all take and no give?

"Scotland has North Sea Oil assets, instead of using them to provide for Scotland, they were sold off to make some quick money."
Unfortunately those assets are controlled by the Westminster government, and any selling off has made some quick money for the UK Treasury, not for Scotland.

When the Scottish gas runs about, which might be sooner than later now. Will the quick money to the UK Treasury have a return journey for support for the unemployed etc?.

spuds
looks like you have not heard the latest news that BP are going to invest more money on the north sea oil and gas.
With the probability of more gas and oil for the next 20 years.
So looks like it is not going to run out in the next few years.

Life, politics, economics, patriotism, what have you, is not just a case of straight pragmatism but a matter of the heart as well. There are more than enough people posting on the forum against the EU. Rightly or wrongly they don`t wish to be governed by Europe. So why on Earth should the Scottish people wish to be ruled from London?

No one ever talks about English independence. Is it about time to get rid of the Scots and Welsh who seem to want their cake and eat it. Of course it will never happen for England.

Welwell "the Scots and Welsh who seem to want their cake and eat it". There are those who would say that it is the English who have always had their cake and ate it and at the expense of the smaller nations of the so called United Kingdom.

I often despair of my countrymen and their attitude to Scotland in particular.
There is money (much of it having come from Scotland) which we graciously give to Scots and let them decide how it's spent.
Yet when they provide their people with free care and tuition fees there is uproar amongst jealous English. It is up to the Scots how they spend their own money, is it not?

I always feel the oil question is a bit of a mis-nomer as Scotland did benefit from the employment and associated industries that sprang up.
To assume that Scotland would have got more if it had been governed lcoally we will never know, but given what has happened to the revenue I cant see an independant Scotland doing anything significantly different.
That said, if we are going to lower the discussion to that level then please can Scotland repay all the money the UK Government invested in RBS. :)
