Who stays up late at night?

Browsing the forum areas late at night, I'm aware that most people seem to have gone to bed, or perhaps they're just doing something else at that time.

In years gone by we had what - for want of a better description - I used to refer to as 'the night crew'. They were the regulars who took part in discussions that often went on into the early hours. We had some interesting debates at night, and whether it was due to the lateness of the hour, or perhaps a nightcap or two, they were mostly good-natured and friendly.

I tend to be here until midnight most evenings - sometimes a little later - because some of the work I do involves on-line collaboration across times zones. I just wondered if anyone keeps me company without my knowing?

FE.

I was not being critical of the Speakers Corner Forum in my posts yesterday, I was simply saying that I feel it has changed now.

I am sure a lot of us remember a certain female journo who used to post regularly and seemed to me to get into a major disagreement with anybody who posted on any thread she contributed to. So much so it became a bit of throwing the toys out of the pram. A bit childish, but highly entertaining all the same.

I myself have been involved in some heated debates where I myself have posted stuff I have looked back on with regret. I try to hold my tongue a bit now and look at it from a different perspective to my own.

"I try to hold my tongue a bit now and look at it from a different perspective to my own."

You've described the perfect recipe for peace and harmony - if everyone operated on that basis we would be strife-free. Like you, I think most regular forum contributors have said things they probably regretted later. I know I have, and to be honest I don't think it's possible to post day in and day out without overreacting once in a while.

The important thing is to understand that people are like that, and not to get too heated over what is, after all, just an on-line discussion forum.

"look at it from a different perspective to my own."

How boring.

You might start to see the other person's point of view, and what sort of a debate would that be!

"and what sort of a debate would that be!"

There's no chance of everyone seeing the other point of view, so don't worry.

Come to think of it, you're right - it would be pretty boring if everyone did it all the time.

sidecarsid's posting is missing? Or am I missing something? Post with the orange-ish highlight.
