Radio Synchronised Clock

Why has my wife's radio synchronised clock suddenly started reading four hours slow?

It's not the battery, the clock keeps perfect time, except that it is four hours, exactly four hours, out.

Believe it or not it was the battery!

I know; that's the first thing I should have checked, but this clock is at least ten years old, and on every previous occasion (about once a year) when the battery starts to go the clock starts to lose time, about ten minutes in every twelve hour revolution.

This time it continued to keep perfect time, but exactly four hours slow.

Lesson learned.
